The following is a message from Superintendent Jody Monroe to families K-12:
Dear BC Parent/Guardian:
Today, May 2, is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. Here in the Bethlehem Central School District one of our top priorities, reflected in our district goals, is to ensure the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of all children K-12 and to make all of our schools places where our students feel safe, supported and where they can focus on learning and growing. Our Coordinated Health Team is working to make mental health a vital part of our efforts to promote overall student health.
In the same way we strive for physical health and well-being, it is important to consider the important role our mental health plays for adults and children alike. For adults, mental health is key to helping us feel confident, energetic and engaged. Mental health in childhood means reaching developmental and emotional milestones, learning positive social skills and how to cope when there are problems. Mentally healthy children have a positive quality of life and can function well at home, in school, and in their communities.
During the month of May, mental health professionals and educators are looking to reinforce the idea that being healthy means taking care of body and mind. Just like exercise, consistency is key. If you want to get started, today is a a great day to do so.
The New York Center of School Health has an easy-to-follow calendar for the month of May with suggestions on how to make mental health a priority at home. View or download the New York Center of School Health May calendar here.
Thank you for all you do to support the Bethlehem Central schools.
Sincerely,
Jody Monroe
Superintendent of Schools
