Homecoming week gets underway at Bethlehem Central on Tuesday, October 9 with several athletic contests scheduled for Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. As usual, the Homecoming pep rally will be held at the end of the school day on Friday and the Homecoming Dance kicks-off on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
In an effort to engage the entire BC community, this year the school district is hosting a Homecoming Hoopla on Saturday, October 13 from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. during the athletic events. Many BC groups and organizations will have booths set-up throughout the day featuring the BC Hooligans, a staff dunk tank (list of staff to come), a photo booth, face painting and much more! The BCHS Hall of Fame will welcome four new members, who will be inducted during halftime at the football game on Saturday afternoon. The game, which features the Eagles taking on the Niskayuna Silver Warriors, is at 4 p.m. at the stadium field at the high school.

2018 Bethlehem Central High School Hall of Fame Inductees
Scott Isaacs
Journalism has been Scott Isaacs’ calling from the very first moment he walked through the doors of Bethlehem Central High School. He wrote for the school newspaper, the Eagle’s Eye, and covered local sports for the Bethlehem edition of The Spotlight. When he wasn’t on the baseball diamond playing first base for the Eagles, Mr. Isaacs served as the voice of both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams. With that foundation in place, Mr. Isaacs was accepted into the prestigious Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. His first job included reporting and producing in Binghamton. Then a move to Boston landed Mr. Isaacs in the middle of some of our nation’s biggest stories. It started with a switch to the sports department of legendary Boston station WCVB. As executive sports producer, Mr. Isaacs directed coverage as the Red Sox broke the 86-year curse, the Patriots grew into a dynasty, and the Bruins and Celtics returned to prominence. In all, he has covered four Super Bowls, three World Series, two NBA Finals, and two Stanley Cup Finals. Mr. Isaacs also specialized in long-term live breaking news coverage. Among his most notable assignments; the capture and trial of James “Whitey” Bulger, the Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath, and the arrest, trial, and death of former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez. His aggressive and creative style drew the attention of WJAR, the powerhouse NBC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island, which named him News Director in 2017. His work has been honored with seven New England Emmy awards and five regional Edward R. Murrow awards. He’s also won a National Headliner Award and a National Edward R. Murrow award. Mr. Isaacs still plays baseball in several adult leagues around Boston. He uses his love for America’s game to help raise money for several charities, including Toys for Tots, the Jimmy Fund, and Best Buddies Rhode Island. He is also a member of the South Shore Giants Foundation, which collects and distributes used baseball equipment and uniforms to children in the Dominican Republic. Mr. Isaacs also continues to pay it forward, mentoring high school and college students who have an interest in broadcast journalism.
Dr. Richard S. Katz
Dr. Richard S. Katz’ research focuses primarily on political parties and electoral systems in the industrialized democracies of Europe, North America, and the British Commonwealth. He has also published work on public support of the arts, the European Union, and electoral behavior. His books include A Theory of Parties and Electoral Systems, Democracy and Elections, Political Institutions in United States, and Democracy and the Cartelization of Political Parties as well as numerous edited and co-edited volumes. He has taught at the City University of New York, the State University of New York at Buffalo, the Central European University, and the Institut d’Etudes Politique de Lille. Dr. Katz has been on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University since 1976. Dr. Katz has recently completed a six-year term on the executive committee of the European Consortium for Political Research and serves as chair of the core group of experts on political party regulation for the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the OSCE. He is a past editor of the European Journal of Political Research and of the EJPR Political Data Yearbook, and has served, or is serving, on the editorial boards of the Journal of Politics, Representation, the Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties, the Canadian Journal of Political Science, Irish Political Studies, Party Politics, and European Union Politics.
Suzanne Tiedeman
Senior Chief Musician Suzanne Rice Tiedeman spent her childhood in the Bethlehem Central School District, from kindergarten at Hamagrael Elementary School all the way to graduation from Bethlehem Central High School in 1993. While in High School, she spent most of her time in the music department, drama productions, and girls varsity soccer team. Her musical studies became her passion and she began her collegiate music studies in French horn performance at Temple University, Esther Boyer College of Music, completing her Bachelor of Music degree in 1998 at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. In 1998, Senior Chief Tiedeman won a position with the United States Navy Band, a presidential support unit based in Washington D.C. While at the Navy Band, she has had the opportunity to tour the country numerous times, perform summer concerts at the U.S. Capitol and regularly perform concerts and ceremonies throughout the National Capitol Region. Senior Chief Tiedeman has played for all of the living US Presidents from 1998 to the current administration. She also performed at the funerals of President Reagan and President Ford. Some of her most rewarding performances have been for the dedication of the WWII memorial on the National Mall, the ground-breaking ceremony of the African-American History museum attended by President Obama, and the National Memorial Service at the Pentagon following the devastating events of 9/11. Currently, Senior Chief Tiedeman serves as Unit Leader of the Ceremonial Band which provides support annually for over 1,300 of the Navy Band’s highest priority missions including events at the White House, presidential inaugurations, Pentagon arrivals, retirement and change-of-command ceremonies and funerals at Arlington National Cemetery. Suzanne and her husband Chris enjoy living in DC with their sons, Ryan and Andrew.
Donald York
Donald York began his music education at an early age with piano and theory study with his mother, an accomplished organist, choirmaster and revered BCHS teacher. He started formal composition study at age 16 with Hall Overton, subsequently with Darius Milhaud at Aspen where he earned a Copley grant and a Fromm prize for composition. A scholarship student at Juilliard, he studied composition with Vincent Persichetti and Roger Sessions, conducting with Jorge Mester. In 1967, Contrast Concerto Grosso, commissioned by Leonard Slatkin and the NY Youth Symphony, won Juilliard’s Gretchaninoff Prize and also the Young Musician’s Foundation Prize. After graduating in 1965, Donald formed a jazz ensemble with saxophonist Nick Brignola, did stints with Lee Konitz, Dave Holland, Turk Mauro, toured and recorded with Daryl Hall/John Oates and was active in the New York studios as a pianist and arranger. In 1975, Mr. York arranged and conducted Bette Midler’s Clams on the Half Shell Revue followed by the Live At Last Tour/Album. A collaboration with iconic modern dance choreographer Paul Taylor began with Polaris in 1976, commissioned by the American Dance Festival. For the next twenty years Mr. York composed or arranged 11 scores and conducted yearly New York seasons as well as performances worldwide. Orchestras conducted include the Paris Opera Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, Jerusalem Philharmonic, Danish Radio Orchestra, Scottish National, Kennedy Center Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, New Mexico Symphony, Miami Philharmonic and Montreal Symphony. He performed for Queen Elizabeth at Sadler’s Wells. Two of his Taylor scores, Last Look and Snow White, were televised on PBS’ Dance in America series. He has also composed scores for Miami City Ballet, Batsheva Dance Company and Ballet de Marseilles/Roland Petit. From 1990-1995 he conducted for the New York City Ballet, and has also conducted for Mark Morris, BalletMet and the Jose Limon Dance Company. On Broadway he conducted or arranged I Love My Wife, Little Me, Can-Can, Merlin, The Marriage of Figaro, The Life, and Sweet Charity. In 2000, his Song of Old was performed at the White House. Since moving to California in 1995 Mr. York has conducted national tours of Beauty and the Beast, Fosse, The Producers, Hello Dolly!, 101 Dalmatians and Chicago. Since 2015, he has conducted the Orchestra of St. Luke’s in yearly Paul Taylor seasons at the Koch Theater Lincoln Center. Don and his wife Anne live blissfully in the California hills with 2 horses, 5 dogs, a cat and a goat.
