An important message from Superintendent Jody Monroe:
Update: No classes Mar. 16-20
Dear BC families:
This is an update on the rapidly evolving situation regarding COVID-19/Coronavirus. We continue to monitor all guidance from local, state and federal agencies. At this time, there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in the school district. However, out of an abundance of caution, we are joining with other area districts and closing school for students for the week of March 16-20, 2020.
This decision is designed to help limit the spread of illness. We will be staying up to date with all developments related to COVID-19/Coronavirus and will make a decision next week should we need to extend the period of this school closure for students.
As of now, all instructional and 12-month non-instructional staff are expected to report on Monday, Mar. 16 for the Superintendent’s Conference Day. On Monday, faculty and staff will be preparing alternate ways to stay connected with students and gathering educational resources for students when school is not in session. The focus will be on sharing a variety of resources for parent-guided and self-guided learning for students during this time. At the end of the day Monday, additional information will be shared with families as to how students will be able to access these resources.
Beginning Tuesday, Mar. 17 through Friday, Mar. 20, instructional staff and other 10-month employees will not report to work. All 12-month employees will be expected to work on those days.
Capital Region BOCES CTE and Special Education programs will not be operating March 16-20. All events, activities and athletics are canceled the week of March 16-20. You can find all district updates, news and information related to COVID-19/Coronavirus on the district website: https://www.bethlehemschools.org/coronavirus-covid-19-updates/
The New York State Education Department continues to work with the governor’s office, the New York State Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Education to provide guidance to our schools around issues such as instructional time and test scheduling. We will share all pertinent information as it becomes available.
Because this situation is unprecedented and changes are happening every hour, these plans could change as we continue to work with the Albany County Department of Health and New York State Department of Health.
The most current and accurate information about the coronavirus can be found at www.health.ny.gov/diseases/communicable/coronavirus.
Thank you for your continued patience and partnership, and we will provide you with more information as soon as we can.
Sincerely,
Jody Monroe
Superintendent of Schools
